Heartland Film Festival Names Vice President for Advancement Leading the Way to National Prominence Peggy O. Monson will lead Heartland Film Festival's development effort as the first vice president for advancement, Heartland President Jeffrey L. Sparks announced today. Monson will join Heartland in this new position immediately. "Peggy brings tremendous energy, strategic thinking and a history of successful fund-raising to the Festival. She is a passionate Heartland volunteer and previous event chair who believes in Heartland's mission and the power of Truly Moving Pictures. Her expertise and vision will help Heartland build financial strength and sustainability," said Sparks. "I am honored to represent Heartland Film Festival and its challenging vision to positively impact the film industry by promoting 'Truly Moving Pictures,'" said Monson. "Heartland has experienced a dynamic period of growth since its inception in 1991 and has had an impact on the culture and economy of Indianapolis and Central Indiana. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to work with Jeff Sparks and his terrific team of professionals at Heartland to bring the Festival to a level of national prominence." Monson brings more than 28 years of experience in business development, management, philanthropic planning, financial marketing and international commercial banking to the position. Most recently, Monson served as vice president, client development officer for National City Bank in Indianapolis, where she managed new business efforts, marketed comprehensive wealth management strategies, and developed relationships with internal commercial lenders and financial consultants. Under her leadership, the bank accrued $22 million in new assets. Previously, Monson was vice president, regional marketing director at Prudential Savings Bank, where her efforts generated $50 million in new assets. At Prudential, she managed relationships in a three-state region, marketed investment services, implemented internal and external training for clients, designed philanthropic financial strategies and conducted seminars. Monson also served as vice president and district trust manager for Merrill Lynch Trust Company, where she saw an increase in new trust assets by $150 million in four years. As the vice president for advancement at Heartland, Monson will provide strategic direction and oversight of all advancement efforts, including setting fund-raising goals. She will also train and supervise appropriate staff and volunteers in development efforts, direct donor information resources, secure major gifts, and collaborate with the president on advancement activities. Additionally, Monson will establish and maintain relationships with foundations, individual and corporate donors as well as numerous civic and business-related organizations. Monson received her master's degree in communications from the University of New Orleans and her bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Evansville. She also studied finance in the MBA program at New York University. A Carmel resident, she is active in the Legacy Fund of Hamilton County, the Central Indiana Community Foundation, the Barnabus Fund, the Ronald McDonald House and the Heartland Film Festival among others. Each October, Heartland screens Truly Moving Pictures from around the world and awards more than $100,000 in cash prizes and Crystal Heart Awards to the Festival's top entries, including a $50,000 grand prize for best dramatic feature. The Jimmy Stewart Memorial Crystal Heart Award winners for the best student films and the Crystal Heart Award winners share the remaining money. The Crystal Heart Award cash prizes are given in honor of Max Simon by his parents, Melvin and Bren Simon, through the Max Simon Charitable Foundation. In 14 years, Heartland has awarded more than $1.4 million to support filmmakers in their quest to create Truly Moving Pictures.
